About this role
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people who are deaf or have hearing loss? Do you want to help them achieve the best possible educational outcomes, develop independence and prepare successfully for adulthood?
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QToD) to join Bexley's well established Hearing Advice and Support Team (HAST). As a QToD, you will provide specialist assessment, advice, teaching and support for children and young people who are deaf or have hearing loss from birth to 25 years of age. Working across family homes, early years settings, mainstream schools, special schools and further education settings, you will play a key role in ensuring children and young people have full access to learning and are supported to achieve their potential.
Your role will include identifying needs through specialist assessment and working collaboratively with parents/carers, educational settings and multi-agency professionals to develop effective support strategies and interventions. You will provide advice and training to schools and families, promote inclusive practice, and contribute to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments and Annual Reviews where appropriate.
You will also advise on the effective use of specialist audiological equipment, including hearing aids, cochlear implants and radio aid technology, ensuring that children, families and educational staff have the knowledge and confidence to support their use.
The QToD post sits within our well-established, multi-disciplinary Early Intervention and Specialist Advice Service (EISAS), providing opportunities to work closely with specialist Advisory Teachers, Specialist Support staff and Educational Psychologists. The role includes joint supervision and line management of two Hearing Support Specialist Assistants, enabling you to contribute to the development and delivery of a high-quality service for children and young people with hearing loss.
