About this role
Join our Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) and play a key role in ensuring vital medical equipment remains safe, reliable and ready for use across our hospitals.
MEMS provides a comprehensive medical equipment management service across Basildon, Southend and Mid Essex Hospitals, as well as supporting external clients. Our service covers the full equipment lifecycle, including procurement, acceptance testing, maintenance and servicing, clinical staff training, and the safe decommissioning and disposal of equipment.
In this varied and hands-on role, you will help ensure that a wide range of medical equipment operates safely and effectively, with minimal downtime. You will work with complex electrical, electronic, mechanical, computer-based and medical gas systems used across clinical environments.
Your responsibilities will include planned preventative maintenance (PPM), servicing, fault finding, repairs, calibration and acceptance testing across a diverse range of electrical and electronic medical equipment.
You will also have the opportunity to work closely with clinical colleagues, helping to promote a greater understanding of medical equipment management across the Trust and contributing to the development and delivery of associated work programmes.
You will provide specialist technical support for a wide range of medical devices, ensuring equipment is safe, reliable and available for clinical use. Working across clinical and workshop environments, you will:
- Commission, calibrate, maintain, repair and deploy complex medical equipment, including infusion devices, patient monitors and defibrillators.
- Investigate faults, analyse test results and provide effective technical solutions.
- Carry out planned maintenance and ensure accurate equipment and maintenance records are maintained.
- Support clinical users with the safe and effective operation of medical devices, providing guidance and training where required.
- Work closely with clinical teams, technical colleagues, IT and equipment suppliers to resolve issues and maintain service standards.
- Ensure equipment is ready for deployment from the Medical Equipment Library and respond appropriately to urgent faults involving patient-connected equipment.
- Monitor stock levels and support the timely procurement of parts and accessories.
- Prioritise your workload effectively and contribute to audits, quality monitoring and service improvements in line with
ISO 9001
2015.
- Support, supervise and mentor junior MEMS staff while maintaining your own professional development.
Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
