About EMCCA

East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) brings partners together to help make the East Midlands more prosperous, sustainable and fairer. We are an evolving organisation, moving our focus towards delivery against our Corporate Plan and building the people, systems and capability needed to turn our ambitions into results.

This makes it an exciting time to join us. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a developing organisation, shape how we work and help deliver meaningful outcomes for our region.

About the role

As Health & Safety Manager, you will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of EMCCA’s health, safety and environmental management arrangements. You will provide expert advice and guidance across the organisation, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, promoting a positive safety culture and supporting the delivery of a safe, healthy and sustainable working environment.

You will work closely with senior leaders, managers, employees and external partners, providing specialist advice on health and safety matters, managing risk, monitoring compliance and embedding best practice throughout the organisation. You will also support organisational resilience arrangements and work alongside the Business Continuity Manager, providing cover as required.

This is an excellent opportunity to shape health, safety and environmental management within a growing organisation. You will have the opportunity to influence culture, develop strategy, improve workplace wellbeing and safety standards, and help ensure EMCCA remains a safe and responsible organisation for employees, stakeholders and visitors.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the development, implementation and review of EMCCA’s health, safety and environmental strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on health and safety legislation, compliance requirements and best practice.
  • Undertaking risk assessments, DSE assessments and COSHH assessments, and supporting managers to implement effective control measures.
  • Developing safe systems of work and supporting managers in their implementation across the organisation.
  • Carrying out planned and unplanned inspections, audits and reviews to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Managing accident, incident and near-miss reporting, investigations, RIDDOR submissions and trend analysis.
  • Delivering health, safety and environmental training, awareness programmes, briefings and committee support.
  • Monitoring environmental performance and supporting initiatives relating to sustainability, energy conservation, recycling and carbon reduction.
  • Producing management information, reports, newsletters and communications to support continuous improvement.
  • Participating in the Emergency Resilience rota and contributing to organisational emergency preparedness and response arrangements.
