About this role

An exceptional opportunity for a mid-level PR Manager to shape the future of PR & Communications in Southampton.

PR & Communications has changed shape fast over the last few years. Earned media now sits alongside social, content and reputation management in a way that demands sharper thinking and quicker turnaround. This growing startup, a lean team building its presence across UK media and digital channels, needs a PR Manager who can own that shift rather than just react to it. Southampton's business scene is expanding, and this company sits right in the middle of it.

Here's what you'll be doing

Build and run PR campaigns from concept through to coverage, working across print, broadcast and digital outlets

Write press releases, pitches and thought leadership pieces that actually get read

Manage relationships with journalists, editors and influencers relevant to the sector

Track coverage and sentiment, then turn that data into recommendations for what to do next

Support the leadership team with messaging during product launches and, when needed, crisis situations

Coordinate with marketing and design on campaigns that need a consistent story across every channel

Here are the skills you'll need

Two to four years' experience in a PR Manager role or similar, agency or in-house

A media contacts book that isn't just theoretical

Strong writing skills. Non-negotiable for this one

Comfortable juggling several campaigns at once without dropping the ball

A calm head under pressure, particularly when a story doesn't go the way you planned

Genuine interest in how PR & Communications intersects with a fast-growing business

Key perks and benefits

£31,000 to £41,000, depending on experience

Hybrid working, based in Southampton with flexibility on where you work

Equity in the business, so you share in what you help build

Flexible hours built around results, not clock-watching

A learning and development budget to keep sharpening your PR Manager skillset

Why pursue a career in PR & Communications?

PR & Communications is one of the few fields where a good story and a good relationship can shift a company's fortunes overnight. Demand for skilled PR Managers keeps climbing as businesses realise that reputation isn't something you bolt on at the end. Southampton has become a genuinely good base for this kind of work, close enough to London to matter, cheaper to live in, and home to a growing cluster of ambitious startups.
